Welcome to Colorado Lek Tours
Our goal is to provide you with a safe, happy,
affordable experience while you enjoy Colorado Grouse
and Prairie-Chickens dancing on their leks. We are a
small company that pays attention to detail. We limit
our trips to seven participants. Everyone on the trip
will be in the ‘front of the line’ and have a great time
experiencing the birds. We try to keep our costs low and
pass the savings on to you with an affordable
experience. You won’t see fancy brochures or high priced
hotels. You will get six nights of quality lodging,
local transportation,
two breakfasts, entry fees and guide each day.
Your trip leader will be Sue
Riffe, owner and founder of Colorado Lek Tours.

Overview
Colorado is the best place in the country for finding
all the species of Prairie-Chickens and Grouse. Its
varied topography gives rise to several ecosystems,
including prairie grasslands, high plains, dry canyons, montane and sub-alpine forests and alpine tundra.
Together these habitats support as many as 500 species
of birds. In addition, Colorado’s geographical location
straddling the Continental Divide provides a mix of
eastern, western, northern and southwestern species not
easily found in a single state. That is what makes
birding in Colorado truly spectacular.
Our trip will take us from the high Rocky Mountains,
west across the continental divide, south along the
western dry canyons, back east across the southern part
of the state and then north through the prairie. We will
cover about 1500 miles searching for our target species.
In order to see many of these Grouse and
Prairie-Chickens at their leks, we’ll need to be up and
on our way between 3:30 to 5:15AM.
